If they don't have summer school in the UK, how do they

If they don't have summer school in the UK, how do they....?
I've heard that they don't have summer school in the UK, if this is true what happens to people? Do they just automatically go through to the next grade, or is there some kind of makeup course that they have to take? What about SATS?

huh? we go on to the next year....we don't take end of year tests or whatever u do in America apart from in year 9 and 11 but you can go to the next year no matter what mark you get...and they may be getting rid of the year 9 tests.....so its only year 11 where you take your GCSE's.... edit: We do SATs in year 6 and year 9 (but they're really pointless and I think the government is getting rid of the year 9 ones) GCSE's and A-levels are kinda the British version of the American SAT's :)

in the UK there is no such thing as failing a grade and we just go to the next year no matter what. the only time a student in the UK would be held back is if he/she missed alot of days in that year, but even this is rare. there is no makeup courses here either, if you missed school for a few days here, that is tough luck of the student, they will just have to ask a friend of theirs what they missed.
