UK Undergrad can I strill do a US MD

UK Undergrad can I strill do a US MD?
If I get an undergrad degree in the UK can I still attend a US medical school? The UK degree would either be a Bachelors of Medicine or a BA in Biology.

Hi Physics Nerd, You will have to contact the medical schools that you are interested in attending to get the specific requirements for applications made from international students. My reason for this statement is because the US education system including medical schools are run very differently then the UK education system. Under the US system you have to have a bachelors degree with certain courses, that each school determine, is needed for admission to medical school. Along with that you will need most likely for have a first class honours degree, you will need to have a student visa, most likely you will have to take the MCAT, and you may even need to take the TOEFL exam too. This may mean for you that you will have to take 2 - 3 years of additional course work in the US at the undergraduate level before you can apply to medical school.

Moving school from Ireland to UK

Moving school from Ireland to UK?
i am 16, in fourth year in school, and live in Ireland. i have two years left of school and want to finish school in the UK, can someone just tell me all they know on how this could work? where to live is part of it, i was thinking boarding school, but how many 6th form school's have that?? (am i right in saying the last two years of college in the UK is college?) sorry i meant to say: (am i right in saying the last 2 years of SCHOOL is college in the UK?)

Where were you planning to live? Edit: If you are prepared to board you have lots of choices. Many British boarding schools have a 6th form intake as they have students that drop or move after GCSEs. You do know that boarding schools are terribly expensive don't you? Around £25,000 a year plus travel and allowance.
2 :
a collage is just a place to gain qualifacations where there are not normally people younger than 16, a school with a sixth form is still jst a school, theonly sixth form collage with boarding in the uk is Welbeck but i think the deadline was january 25th. there are lots of boardin schools with sixth forms though, the best sixth form in the contry 'hockerills' in hertfordshire near london, has boarding, but its expensive

actually i think they'd more consider you because you'll most likely be a minority and most colleges want to improve on their diversity. Also many colleges may offer you scholarships if you come from a poor developing nation.

Best thing is to contact the Uni's by e-mail. My Uni has an international department which most will have I reckon. Have a browse if you like... might be able to point you in the right direction http://www.uclan.ac.uk/ It's the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, about 30 miles from Manchester, England, UK. Good luck!
2 :
G'day, All universities in Australia will be able to accept your credits from study that you've done in USA college. What you need to do is to submit the application form, certified copy of your course transcript and course syllabus for the subjects that you've done. I suggest you to go to Dept of Education, Science and Technology (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) and IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au) online database. IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. The information abt fees & requirements can be found in the university's website. Please make sure that you access the information for internationals students, since some requirements, application form and fees are different than Australians'. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification. Depending on your country of origin, you may also need to submit an IELTS test results for proof of your English proficiency (www.ielts.org) Hope this helps. Good luck on your study :)

i want to go to a UK boarding school. is that weird

i want to go to a UK boarding school. is that weird?
i really want to go to the uk to go to boarding school. i just need to find a way to "sell" it to my mom in a way that she'll like my idea. i also need to find a nice place. in a nice area and all of that stuff. but yah. im not quite sure how to ask everything i want to know. so i need websites that explain everything. and i REALLY need a way to get my mom to like this idea. i really want to go to one in the uk or france, that general aera cuz thats where im origionally from. soooooo yah help? please..lol 10 grade, 15. and about my grammar and spelling, im actually really good at it, i just dont like to waste my time on it when i'm doing something simple like this...

Choose a city or an area in the UK that you would like to be in, then google up boarding schools in that area, for example, if you wanted to be in Scotland, in the vicinity of Edinburgh, google up "boarding schools Edinburgh" and you should get all the information you need. You don't say what grade you are in or how old you are, and this can make a difference. And, while you may want to attend school in the UK or in France, you don't simply waltz in and say, "Here I am!" You often have to write entrance or placement exams. In that case, you might want to do a little something about your spelling and grammar. You include France in your wish list -- do you speak French? Or are you looking for a boarding school for international students conducted in English? That makes the search a lot more difficult, but if you are from the US, check with the US Embassy to find out where children of their overseas employees go. As for selling this idea to your mom, she might be more impressed if you had researched all the data and were able to present her with a complete proposal outlining costs, times, necessary paperwork (eg passport, school accreditation etc.)

School is compulsory in the UK. If you don't go, you'll be truant, and they'll come after your parents. Your parents could get into legal trouble, even go to jail. You could be removed from their home. If your parents are on gov't benefits, they could lose them. Lots of issues.

My son's school keeps hassling me about his attendence but he is not compulsory school age?UK

My son's school keeps hassling me about his attendence but he is not compulsory school age?UK?
My son is not yet 5, he is in Reception class at primary school. He has had time off this year for Chicken Pox (severe) and various other viral illnesses. The school keeps sending me snotty letters threatening me with fines and prosecution and demanding doctors letters which I have provided. I have just found out however that he is not yet compulsory school age and won't be until September coming. Can they continue to harass me like this? I am not a mum who can't be bothered to take her child to school, I just refuse to send him in whilst he is ill and I ALWAYS inform them of his absences. What can I do to get them to leave me alone? Jil_bo: No actually, I was not given any such option. He took up a free nursery place in the September after his 3rd birthday, I was told I must apply for his reception place for him to be able to stay at the school which I did and he progressed in to reception in the January intake. I don't know what you are talking about as no one told me of any 'option' to enrol him at a later date. Regardless of him being school age or not I will NOT send him to school sick, what kind of mother would I be if I did? if the child is age four or age twelve they should not bully and prosecute parents for having a sick child, they should concentrate on the parents who can't be bothered to get up in the morning. I didn't sign any attendance agreement and there was no other attendance policy stated in the application pack. His birthday is June 9th for info sake.

wow, that school is being very harsh! you should set up a meeting with them and explain that they are being very unfair and that you've always informed them when he's been absent. Good luck!
2 :
tell them that you have decided to keep your son home for the remainder of this school due to his missing alot of school and age factor.he will benefit more next year because of his age.dont take no for an answer.
3 :
Go and see the school in person with a copy of your son's birth certificate. Show them that he is not yet compulsory school age and is under no obligation to be in school. Also bring copies of the medical reports again so they know that you did try to put him in school but his health would not allow continuous attendance, so you have decided you will keep him at home and enroll him full time next year, as required
4 :
i might be wrong here but you would have been given the choice to send him to school at this age. for example if a child turns 4 before the 28/29th of feb 09 they are allowed to start school that year or you can decide to defer them to the year after so they are closer in age to the other kids. so if they are 4 in, say, august 09 they aren't allowed to start school in 09, but if they are 4 in january 09 - you then are allowed to choose if they start in 09 or defer them to 2010. so you must have decided to enroll him at school therefore you agreed that he would attend so the school are just doing what they always do.

Your question should read 'Do you have any addresses of school English in UK? We need school English in UK because I need to study English.' That said, it still is incorrect. It would be better as 'Do you know of any addresses where I can study English?' I'm only pointing this out for you to learn and not patronising your attempt. I probably don't speak or write anything in your language. Try these web addresses: http://www.move-on.org.uk/ http://www.dfes.gov.uk/readwriteplus/ and check the links. Good Luck!

Kids not being sent to school in UK - Should I report it

Kids not being sent to school in UK - Should I report it?
A single mother on our street very often keeps her youngest daughter at home with her. I would approximate the age of this child at around 9. In an average month, I would say that the child is probably at home for a week of it (comprising of random days) with the claim that she is ill. However, this is hard to believe when after school hours the kid is playing on the street with the others and in the daytime walking the dog etc etc. I even heard a discussion where the child was complaining of being to hot, so the mother told her to just put her shorts on and sit in the garden. So, clearly this child is in fact not ill in any way. Thing is, should I just stay out of it (cause lets face it this is none of my business)? Or should I report the mother to social services?
Primary & Secondary Education - 3 Answers

When I was a kid I had separation anxiety and couldn't make it to school much. You don't know what's going on, I think it may not be any of your business.
2 :
The school will be doing that once she's missed more than a certain number of days anyway.
3 :
It's easy to judge when you are on the outside looking in but really you have no idea if this child has health or emotional problems. The school and local education services are probably already dealing with this as it is their job to recognise if a child has any sort of ongoing absence. Maybe talk to the mother about other things and become her friend. She may need some help and support too.

Is it worth it to go to school and move to the UK from the United States

Is it worth it to go to school and move to the UK from the United States?
I have always wanted to live in the United Kingdom. If i am going to do it, then i think that the best time would be to do it when at school so i could get a degree in the country. I am planning on being a doctor. Is it worth it to go to school there and move there?

? I don't understand? You do know that Britain aka United Kingdom is just a myth right? You cannot physically go to it...
2 :
yeah, it is a good idea. first, UK schooling is way better than the US school standard and the British accent is so PIMP..... and well they don't call football as soccer tehe
3 :
I think it makes more sense to do your undergraduate education here. You need a lot more information about both the British education system (how your US high school preparation translates there, how medical school admissions work there, etc.) and about living in England. You are presumably 18-19 years old, so "always" is a pretty short time. You would not want to move to London, find out it's not what you imagined and want to move back, and then find that your life and education are greatly complicated by having made the move. Look for colleges that offer "study abroad" programs in England. You may be able to spend a semester or a full academic year there without making the huge commitment of moving permanently. That's enough time to get a sense of whether you REALLY want to live there.
4 :
All depends on what school you go to
5 :
You may want to read a few books of the subject and ask guidance counselors. The more fun thing to do would obviously be to go to school in the UK.

UCLA NYU USC film school requirements UK?
hey guys, i was wondering how much of my british results they will actually take into account. These are my predicted A-levels (i am sitting them next year, i am 17 at the moment) Media - A Maths - A Film - A Psychology - B Also i am doing a photography AS, a subject equivalent to an A at A-level and a lot of small directing and film making courses. Along with a huge amount of work exp in my year out including soem with an editor of the mini TV series, 'Band Of Brothers' and the BBC. i know i have to sit the SAT I tests and that's fine, no problems there. But the SAT II - Subject Test, I can handle the maths but I haven't studied the other choices that are on the list. Will the universities understand this and because of my results in the UK won't mind as much? thanks :) I am also working on my own projects at the moment but i understand UCLA doesn't take portfolio's.

Big colleges like that should take your A level results into account - they must get British applicants all the time. I would email the universities you want to apply for and ask them what to do. I doubt very much they will expect you to sit SAT II papers in subjects you have no teaching for.

It's called the A-levels in England (they're what you'd use to get into uni). Um, from my experience living there, the GCSEs are kinda like the School Cert. But harder. Internship / work at a language school in UK

Internship / work at a language school in UK?
Hello everyone, Hope someone who've faced the same problem might share his or her experience.. I am looking for a 3-month internship in Britain (starting in late August - beg. of September), a perfect place would be an Eng. language school in a middle-sized or small town, somewhere along the East coast, where the cost of living is such as 200-300 pounds per month would be enough for accommodation + same amount for everyday expenes.. I've found one very nice school in Scarborough, but not sure about the placement there and want to try out as many places as possible. It took a loot of time to only find the Sc's one plus it's almost time to start sending the applications and prepare all the docs, so maybe some of you had a good experience of working / studying in some nice school or academy and could help? Thanks a lot in advance :)

The first thing you need to do is improve your English. You do not apply through UCAS as you are an international student. You will need £10000 for your first two years fees and £40000 for the final three years. You will also meed about £10000 a year for accomodation and food, books etc. Then you need a visa.

Here is the web page for Houston High School. Each school level begins at a different time of day, so the elementary schools would not begin at the same time. http://www.hhs.matsuk12.us/ Look under school calendar for information about holidays. You can also look under Matanuska Susitna School District at www.matsuk12.us. But, why not just go there yourself, so that you can add all the detail that you will need for your book. If you haven't been there, you'll never know what you have missed. Fly to Anchorage and go see and enjoy Alaska for yourself!

if you put the words ..home schooling in the u.k. into your search bar you will find any number of sites to help you, not only with the legal information but with online courses, parental support and access to teaching materials. You have the right to teach your child at home and all that is required of you by law is that you inform the local education authority that you are going to do so and are removing him from school. Some local authorities will ask to see the child periodically or to inspect your work with him but they do not have a right to force you to allow them to do so..you can always get clear information about this from the Citizen's Advice people and I think that you should make an appointment to do so. The join one or more of the organisations that support homeschooling and take a loot in your local book stores for the home study books that most of them cary on every subject and for every age level. You should talk to your son about this and especially about the loss of social contact he will suffer as a result of it, and then suggest that you try it for the remainder of this year and see how it goes. Mostly what you are going to have to give to this experiment is time, you may find that you have to learn each lesson yourself before teaching it to your son but this will actually make you a better rather than a worse teacher. It may be possible for you to arrange for your son to take certain lessons such as science, at a local school or collage where they have the equipment you do not, some authorities are more supportive than others. If it does not work out then of course the thing to do is to find a different school for your son to return to; but there is no reason why it should fail.

hi i am home taught and have been for nearly two years now. yes the education welfare do come to check up on you ( once every 6 months) but you do not have to let them come. its is not the law that they come, and they are only there to guidance you. there are courses that you can have your son take ( look up oxford open learning - i'm with them) they allow you to do gcse's and now have started 11-14 years old courses to take. the best thing with oxford, is they give your son a tutor in every course, that he can phone or email, and they help him out. also they do tutor marked assignments that your son will take after every 4 or 5 sections, so that the tutors can help him understand what he cannot do. if you have any more worries, please email me, and you can either talk to me or my mum about this.

actually the education department have no right of access to your home. you can deal with their inquiries in writing. you do not have to follow a curriculum or syllabus. see below

Whoever told you about this "Education welfare board" was misinformed or trying to scare you. Once you de-register you'll probably hear from the LA and they will probably ask to visit, but you can say no thanks. They have a duty to make inquiries IF they have reason to believe that you are NOT providing your son with an education suitable for his age, aptitudes and abilities. Not that this little thing will stop them bothering you, but it's good to know your legal rights and that you can just refuse to do things their way. You can write an educational philosophy or report to send them, to put their little minds at rest, but you do not have to justify yourself or provide a school education either in style or content. You have nothing to be scared of!

Can I study in the UK during high school

Can I study in the UK during high school?
Is it possible for me (a foreign student) to study in UK during high school?I am smart and I like adventures,...so I am not afraid if there are any exams, I am just looking for a serious program so that I can live and study in UK. Can you help me?I really am desperate as the high schools in my country (Romania) are good for nothing and I am seeking for some serious education. Your help would be appreciated, Alexander

I don't know what you have heard, but the UK eduction is not worth the bother of immigrating for. Most people in the UK no longer have the enthusiasm to really push themselves through school, and as a result the teachers to not teach at the level they could. I suggest you go to another EU country like Poland, where the education system is decent and the students have enough enthusiasm.
2 :
You have to do most the work yourself, teachers aren't very good, my maths teacher for example, doesn't even speak a word of english. I'd stay where you are.

A nontraditional university or college degree by distance learning is the perfect solution for you to earn a Bachelor's Master's, MBA or Ph.D.Other many courses while maintaining your current lifestyle. Here is a collection of some disciplines that can be studied long-distance www.onlineeducationdegrees.page.tl
2 :
an 82% average is around a 3.1 in my school. over 65% of syracuse's students have a 3.75 or above. you should also be taking honors classes and be a leader of some club or sport. also, you should try to do some volunteer work or get a job as well, that looks good. right now, in all honesty, it's not looking good, but if your still only a freshmen or sophomore you still have time to pull your gpa up, do some volunteer work, and do very well on the SAT.

School Attendance (UK)

School Attendance (UK)...?
Im 15 years old and im really worried. For 11 months i have been suffering from ingrown toenail and have missed a rough total of 3 1/2 months due to surgery, emergency treatment,etc.. i have a really bad attendance of just 54% and my mum has been spoken to by Educational Welfare people. But she has been calling in to the school, writing letters asking if they can send work to me but nothing. Nobody even told the headmaster what's wrong with me. They think i'm just staying at home without reason. What can happen to my mum/me?

Your mom needs to go to the school and ask to speak to the Headmaster. Not only tell him/her about no one looking after your homework to send it home, after requests, but tell them that is what you want! And that it is serious. your not just staying home for the hell of it. It sucks i know, im 16 and in Canada.. I miss so much school, I have very bad tonsillitis. Causes me to miss so much school, and its such a piss off when people think you are faking it, and don't wanna help you get caught up. That includes teachers. some can be a complete bitch. But good luck! Deffinately get your mom to go to the school and talk some sence into them. bye

after school detention (UK only plz)

after school detention (UK only plz)?
HI. im at secondary school in year 11 and today i had a 2hr after school detention at skool, because i got caught skipping class wiv my mate kaylee. At our skool there is 2 different after skool detentions a C1 or C2. and C1 is for 1hr and C2 for 2hrs. C1 is for not wearing skool uniform or being late.. you only get a C2 if you skip class, or being rude to teachers or smoking on school grounds etc. so thats what i had. It was from 3.30 til 5.30 and we had to write this really long essay and also copy the skool code of conduct, (which hurt my hand from writing lots) i hated it! how long are your detentions after skool? 2hrs is a long time and our skool is quite strict on it. What do you do in detention (write lines or essay etc)? jess xx

Every teacher in my school has a different form of after school detention, usually from 30 minutes to an hour. My science teacher calls it 'X period' and you can't say anything for 30 minutes or else you get another 30. This is for if you are late to class or if you are rude to the teacher. There are also detentions from the principal and vice principal for an hour under most circumstances or on Saturdays for two hours if you are really bad.
2 :
i have had 2hrs on weekdays and 4 hrs on saturdays. you're lucky man!
3 :
After school detentions are on Tuesdays and Thursdays and are a 30 mins or an hour depending on the offence. There are also saturday detentions, either an hour or two hours. Work set depends on the teacher issuing the detention: I had to do an essay in my after school detention

Bullying in UK schools compared to US schools

Bullying in UK schools compared to US schools?
I need statistics to back up my point that bullying is more common in US schools because students don't wear uniform, and you get picked on because of what you wear. Whereas in the UK, we wear uniform so you look the same. Any ideas, and sources?

being english i cant comment on this as effectivly but just because we wear school uniform dosnt change alot Kids still bully over silly things, like what shoes you got, or what make bag, how your cloths fit!! the school uniform system is a joke here because childen still wear certain accesories to make it cooler like hats and scarfs and coats its something thats bad everywere and the problem we have is teachers havent got the power to punish anyone to the point where it could actually be stopped!
2 :
I'm a sophomore in high school from Northern Virgina ... and to be honest, there is really never any bullying. At least where I live, you either talk to somebody or you don't; you don't pick on them for fun. Nobody gets picked on for how they dress ... sure, some people dress extremely wierdly, but nobody comes out and bullies them to their face.
3 :
Yes most likely is but their approach to the problem might be different. It is called international boredom, what we get over here most likely common everywhere. It is an urban problem. What they get over there we get over here. http://www.bullyingintheu.k.com

Probably a lot depends on what your SAT/ACT scores are too, and what activities you are in as well as class rank.
2 :
Yeah, I'd even give you early acceptance.
3 :
Nobody cares what your extracurriculars are. It's illegal for a UK university to select you based on anything other than suitability for the course. They'll be interested in the community service stuff where it's relevant to your desire to care for people, and the hospital volunteering, and that's it. Um...when are you planning on starting? If it was in 2009, you are already too late, applications for medicine closed at the end of October 2008. If it's 2010, you probably want to look seriously at that chemistry and see if you can pull it up a bit. A UK applicant would be expected to have an A grade in A level chemistry, no ifs or buts. If I understand it right, that's the equivalent of over 90 in an AP course. Edit: I strongly suggest you check whether you will need SATs. I think you are wrong. UK applicants don't need them because they do A levels, but you haven't, and frankly nobody will much care how good you are at classwork, they'll want exam results not marked by your own teacher. Certainly for Oxford, US applicants do - and they have to be SAT II.

school cantine (uk)

school cantine (uk)......?
i want to try and get local produce into the school cantine instead of the crap that gets sold from the companies like pasta king. it would be good to get my school to pull out of buying from them and to buy local produce (in bulk obviously) and free range chicken ect but im wondering about the cost, at the moment a single slice of greasy oily pizza costs about £1.20 and a roll with horrible cardboard-like cheese is like £1.45 and a small muffin or fairycake is 55p. the school is still selling junk food and the salads they sell are all wilted and made of couscous when it would be nicer to have a fresh salad made or cucumber, tomatoes and pepper ect. i would like to know approx how much more less it would cost and who to go to to try and achieve this. it has already been brought up in school council but i very much doubt they will do anythign about it. i would go the headteacher about it but theyre leaving soon so im not sure. x

Well, you need to talk to someone to find out what the current costs are, and then local producers to find out what the new costs would be. I would suggest doing this on a smaller scale to start out, perhaps a home ec class or something would be willing to make a healthy or lunch such as a salad or something once a week to sell, they as a class could take care of costs and such. A local school here is doing this but the food is free I think if you bring your own reusable container and a small charge to provide a container. Perhaps an economics or business class in your school could look at the pricing and logistics as a class project? See if there is something popular in the canteen such as fries (chips) or pizza and see if there is an affordable local option or producer just for that item. If it is popular and works well the school may be more receptive to making other changes as well.
2 :
Haha, thats how much ours are and our head is leaving soon too :D

huh? we go on to the next year....we don't take end of year tests or whatever u do in America apart from in year 9 and 11 but you can go to the next year no matter what mark you get...and they may be getting rid of the year 9 tests.....so its only year 11 where you take your GCSE's.... edit: We do SATs in year 6 and year 9 (but they're really pointless and I think the government is getting rid of the year 9 ones) GCSE's and A-levels are kinda the British version of the American SAT's :)
2 :
in the UK there is no such thing as failing a grade and we just go to the next year no matter what. the only time a student in the UK would be held back is if he/she missed alot of days in that year, but even this is rare. there is no makeup courses here either, if you missed school for a few days here, that is tough luck of the student, they will just have to ask a friend of theirs what they missed.

Yes, you can go to a med school out of the country and still practice in the US. As long as you are a registered MD. However, you will need to gain your certificate in whatever area you plan to work as a psychiatrist, that way you can be a registerd psychiatrist.

If your referring to high school. We go to school Monday to friday. Most schools start at 9.00am and end at about 3.30pm There is a dinner break at 12.30pm for about 45 mintues and a morning break at 10.30 for 30 mins. There will be about either 8, 45min lessons per day or 5 hour-long lessons. xxx

Sophie's information simply isn't true for more than her own school or area. It's different everywhere. My daughter starts at 8.40, finishes at 3.50, and has 7 lessons a day, for instance. My son who is younger starts at 8.45, finishes at 3, and has 4 lessons a day. You need to be much more specific about what you want to know.

Our schools aren't the same... We don't have elementary. We have pre-school, primary, secondary, (6th form or college after) and university. We also don't have grades. We have years. it goes from primary: Reception, yr 1, yr 2, yr 3, 4, 5, 6. Secondary: yr 7, 8 , 9,10,11. Then 6th form is yrs 12 and 13 then i don't understand the rest(even though I'm from the uk) But yeah I personally like schools down in the South-West(where I live) I love my secondary school and my primary school i used to go to. basically primary is from the age of 4(?) to 11... then secondary is from 11 to 15/16 (dependin on birthday) Then 6th form is from 16(?) to 18... Then uni. Basically the schools I like are all in South-West England mostly because they are smaller and I have found (after living in London and I'm not sayin all London schools are like the one i went to) that schools up in London are harder to control bullying because the schools are so big. I no this isn't the most helpful but i like Sir Robert Gefferys Primary in Landrake, Cornwall as a primary and Saltash Community School as a Secondary(my old one).
2 :
First of all, let me point out that my answer relates to English education, not UK education. Scotland has a completely separate system, and although Wales uses the same National Curriculum as England, they don't have the same education system. Anyway... It depends on what you base it on. The only way to judge is based on SAT results (the tests 11 year olds take in Maths, English and Science). A lot of schools push and push to get their children to achieve level 5 in their SATS, so that the school is higher up the league tables. The school I'm currently teaching in has been classed as a Grade 1 by Ofsted (Her Majesty's Inspectors) and achieves a very high percentage of level 5s, but in my opinion, the school is quite poor. It's more focused on results than on what the children actually understand. There's more info here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7129438.stm This site lists the best 205 primary schools in England, but honestly, league tables mean nothing. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7129980.stm

Is it better to study Computer Science in UK or Australia

Is it better to study Computer Science in UK or Australia?
I definitely want to do a PhD in USA. As i won't have my GRE general score until June, I'd like to do a one-year coursework master's degree in some English-speking country so as to prepare for my application for admission to a US graduate school. Is UK or Australia CS/IT Master's degree more recognized by USA graduate schools? Thanks a lot. (I'll graduate with a BBA(information systems) in Hong Kong this year) Are there any graduate school in USA that does not need any GRE score. It seems everyone needs the score. (It's OK if I can do a pre-master or diploma before offically becoming a postraduate. I'm OK with any graduate school.)

2 :
It ends when you're 15-16. However, you can still continue education at collage for another 1, 2 or 3 years. Yes, It's called secondary school School usually stars at 8:30 to 9:00 am to 3:00 to 3:30 pm (an hour extra if there is an assembly) No idea about the dates - never really took much notice. Somewhere around August it starts and ends in July I believe. Added: Schools in UK are not like schools and America. 99% do not have "lockers" or desks that you can store stuff in.
3 :
You start secondary school when you're 11 or 12, and can leave once you're 16. My son's school starts at 9am and he finishes at 3.10pm. All schools may have slightly different start/finishing times though. The school year is different depending on which part of the UK you live in. Here in Scotland they start the year in August and finish in June. In other parts of the UK it's usually about a month later than this. We also have a different qualification system here in Scotland.

Are high school plays in the UK performed in American accents

Are high school plays in the UK performed in American accents?
To clarify: I am referring to the tendency of young, amateur, American actors to almost sound as if they are trying to impersonate a British accent, in their attempt to add theatrical expression to their voices.
Theater & Acting - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If they are, I am sure they are just as bad as when Americans try to do British accents.
2 :
Maybe if it's an American play.. I don't really know what you mean.=S
3 :
I have no clue, but it wouldn't matter either way because lots of people don't use accents in Romeo and Juliet.
4 :
Productions are usually done in an accent relevant to the piece in question. If the play was set in Northern England or London for example then the appropriate regional accent would usually be attempted, if it were set in Ireland then an appropriate Irish accent (dependant again on the region) and if it was set in America then the relevant accent would be used for that. There would be no point doing e.g. Blood Brothers with an American accent when it's set in Liverpool, just as Chicago would be a little odd performed in a Geordie accent (Newcastle). A Glaswegian version of A Streetcar named Desire however could be quite entertaining... Having said all that I find the fact that people get hung-up on the accents often gets in the way of the performance, and I would far rather see a performance in actor's "natural voice" that was true to the spirit of the character and thus gave some illumination to the play than a wooden performance that had the right accent.
